Popular QR Code Uses in India

UPI Payment QR

Create a QR code for your UPI ID so customers can pay you instantly by scanning

Shop / Business

Put a QR code on your shop board linking to your menu, website, or Google Maps location

Business Card

Add a QR code to your visiting card that opens your LinkedIn profile or portfolio

How to Create a UPI Payment QR Code

To create a QR code for UPI payments, you need to enter your UPI ID in a specific format:

UPI QR Code Format:
upi://pay?pa=yourname@upi&pn=Your+Name&cu=INR

Example:
upi://pay?pa=manav@okaxis&pn=Manav+Katrodiya&cu=INR

Paste this in the QR generator and download. Anyone who scans it will be taken directly to the UPI payment screen.
Tip: You can also add a fixed amount to your UPI QR code by adding &am=100 at the end (replace 100 with your amount). This is useful for fixed-price products.

QR Code Best Practices

QR Code for Your Shop or Small Business

If you run a small shop, tea stall, or any business in India, a UPI QR code on your counter lets customers pay instantly without cash. Here's how to set it up:

Step 1: Find your UPI ID. Open Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm → Profile → Your UPI ID (looks like yourname@okaxis or 9876543210@ybl)

Step 2: Use this format in the QR generator:
upi://pay?pa=YOUR_UPI_ID&pn=YOUR_NAME&cu=INR

Step 3: Download the QR code, print it on A4 paper or get it laminated (most print shops charge ₹10–20)

Step 4: Place it on your counter. Customers scan and pay — amount goes directly to your account.

To fix the amount (useful for fixed-price items): add &am=50 at the end to pre-fill ₹50.

QR Code Troubleshooting

QR code not scanning
Make sure there is white space (quiet zone) around the QR code. Dark background directly touching the QR pattern makes it unreadable. Also check print quality — blurry print won't scan.
Camera opens but QR doesn't detect
Some older Android phones need a QR scanner app. Try Google Lens — open camera → tap the Google Lens icon → point at QR. Works on all Android phones.
UPI QR opens wrong app
Android shows a selector when multiple UPI apps are installed. The customer can choose Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm — all work with the same UPI QR code.
Static vs Dynamic QR — which do I need?
Static QR (what this tool generates) always points to the same URL/UPI ID and never expires. Dynamic QR can be changed after creation but requires a paid service. For most Indian use cases — business cards, shop counters, event passes — static QR is sufficient.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are QR codes free to create?

Yes. Basic QR codes for URLs, text, and UPI are completely free to create and use forever. You do not need to pay for a subscription.

Do QR codes expire?

Static QR codes (like the ones generated here) never expire. They will work as long as the URL or content they point to is active.

Can I edit a QR code after creating it?

Static QR codes cannot be edited after creation. If you need to change the destination, you must generate a new QR code. For editable QR codes, you need a dynamic QR code service.

How do I scan a QR code on my phone?

On most Android and iPhone devices, simply open the Camera app and point it at the QR code. A notification will appear with the link. You can also use Google Lens or any QR scanner app.

What is the maximum amount of text a QR code can hold?

A QR code can hold up to about 4,000 characters of text. However, more text means a more complex QR code that may be harder to scan. Keep it short for best results.
